Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall 777 N. Tamiami Trail, Sarasota, FL, 34236

William Wesley Peters made the design of Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall that was opened in 1970. The opening of the theater was marked by the production of Fiddler on the Roof. The colors of the hall were suggested by Olgivanna Lloyd Wright who’s the widow of Frank Lloyd Wright. The design of the theater is an inspiration from two seashells from the Sea of Japan. Different cultural organizations of Sarasota are based in the hall including Sarasota Concert Association, Florida West Coast Symphony and many others.

Since it was opened, the hall has hosted a variety of events that include modern and classical dance, jazz and pop music, comedies and Broadway shows, world-class symphonies and a lot more. In 2000, the hall witnessed refurbishments including the addition of 25,000 more square feet. And the expansion has provided a great area for events. The renovations included more restrooms, new lighting and sound systems, new stagehouse and more.

The Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall tops the list of performing arts halls with less than 2,000 seats in a list made by Venue magazine. It hall has always hosted events of big names including John Legend, Sheryl Crow, Queen Latifah, John Lithgow, Glen Campbell, Natalie Cole, and the list goes long. And because of these great shows that are hosted in the hall, it is seen among the most enviable venues in United States.
